Profile:
Oprah Winfrey was born in Mississippi, but moved from state to state for various reasons, many being family trouble. Studying Communications at Tennessee State University lead to her career as a local television news anchor, which lead to her moving to Chicago to present "AM Chicago", a poorly rating show, which ended up becoming the much more successful "The Oprah Winfrey Show", broadcasting nation-wide in 1986. The Wall Street Journal considers her wit, intelligence, and attitude to the audience to be the reason why the show succeeded. Becoming a executive producer on the show meant she was able to make greater creative decisions, including expanding the Oprah show into a magazine, a radio channel, a book club, and even a television network.
How has she contributed to the creative industry:
Her creativity changed journalism, day time television, and even the cultural attitudes of America. She has promoted many charitable causes, critically acclaimed books, films, plays, writers, actors, musicians, scientists, and the like. Her show's main location in Chacago has help reinvigorate the city, as well as help launch other critically awarded shoes such as the "Dr. Phil" show and "Doctors". She's also producerd "Precious" an motion picture adaptation of the award winning novel.
